I write about it more in my full review, but in a nutshell, version 4 is a viable Lightroom alternative that offers some truly incredible features. It arrived at the perfect time when photographers of all levels were starting to look for a viable Lightroom alternative – see our full review.įirst iterations weren’t great, but thankfully, Skylum has really pulled its socks up since then! The most recent release of Luminar 4.1 here in December 2021 is quite frankly mind-blowing. Luminar came onto the scene a few years ago as an affordable and simple image processing and editing software for users looking for a way to get their images looking great with minimal fuss. Save $15 by using coupon code SHOTKIT15 when purchasing Luminar 4. We also include the top free Lightroom alternative options for photographers who aren’t ready to invest in paid software. This guide features our summarised recommendations of the best photo editing software in 2021, which can be bought for a one-time fee.

You can 1) upgrade to the subscription, 2) use the free DNG converter, or 3) find an alternate that is current and works with CR3.

Ok, but it's been a full 2 years now since the last update to the stand-alone LR.

Would you miss LR's DAM? Apparently C1 Pro has a DAM and I think ON 1 as well. You can do a lot of the edits in DXO before exporting. If you want a DAM as comprehensive as LR your options are limited.ĭXO PL has a export to LR plug-in but you have to export as TIFF or DNG so you lose RAW editing. If LR6 cannot read CR3 I don't think you can import them with a different developer? Not sure that can be done. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, and for any comments about what the various alternatives do better or worse than Lightroom. So, for others who, like myself, really don't want to do the subscription model, what have you gone to that is working well for you? The three big issues I can see are (1) ability to import my files from Lightroom, (2) comparable edit/adjustment tools (including lens corrections), and (3) ability to work with plug-ins. Am I the only one who remembers when Adobe first went to a subscription model for Photoshop, but the "promised" that they would continue the standalone option for Lightroom? Yeah. Thanks for the replies, I was afraid of that.
